Project history

Proven operations

Campaigns that validated the Fremantle-class operating model, from national charting to commercial cable routes and port work.

OMS City Beach Cable Route Survey

Fremantle 01 undertook its maiden cable route survey for OMS Group, examining bathymetry around a major cable route between Perth and Singapore.

In 1.5 m waves the vessel was controlled entirely from within the ROC by the coxswain, working alongside a hydrographic surveyor and gathering exceptional quality multibeam data in adverse conditions.

The campaign demonstrated the crewed-to-uncrewed operating model on a live commercial scope, with survey acquisition managed remotely while the platform held station and line in challenging sea state.

HIPP Hydrographic Survey

On its maiden voyage, Fremantle 01 earned its stripes in previously uncharted waters in a region with over 40 documented shipwrecks, delivering an IHO S44 Order 1a hydrographic survey.

Arriving via truck in Esperance pre-mobilised with equipment, the USV was launched, calibrated and ready to survey within a single day, then worked in tandem with the main survey vessel on shallower coastal areas.

Around 80% of the work was conducted autonomously across a 44-day campaign in depths of 3 to 150 m, with the vessel remaining on site for the duration, refuelled and maintained exclusively at sea.

Charles Collins

We were thrilled to see that our hard work over the last three years had paid off. Not only did the Fremantle 01 get scores on the board, but completing the survey on time, on budget, and with the vessel conducting a substantial amount of the work, well above what was planned, was a proud moment for myself and the EGS team.

Rolex Sail GP Debris Survey

Following 2026's Rolex Sail GP Championship event, Fremantle 01 was tasked with ensuring no debris was left in Fremantle port after the racing programme.

The USV operated in its crewed configuration with a coxswain and deck hand ensuring safe navigation through the busy port, whilst the hydrographic survey team managed the multibeam from the Remote Operations Centre.

The project showcased optionally-crewed operations in a high-traffic harbour environment, combining on-board marine control with remote survey expertise.
